SOLUTIONS SPOTLIGHT
Client Challenge:

A client was tired of receiving significant year-over-year premium increases to their traditional employee benefit plan. They wanted to maintain their benefit costs within their budget, while at the same time, provide their employees with some flexibility and add an element of employee choice.
 
Solutions Implemented:

Redesigned benefit plan to core Life, AD&D, LTD and OOC;
self-insured core Prescription Drug benefit at 80% with Stop-Loss;
self-insured core basic and major Dental benefit with $1,000 annual maximum.  Also added was a Health Care Spending Account (HCSA) equal to 3% of employee earnings, updated annually.
 

Results:

  • Renewal increase was neutralized by implementation of core plan benefits, maximums and HCSA, while at the same time ER exposure to catastrophic risk was limited by adding the Stop-Loss benefit.
  • Employee empowerment, choice and flexibility are now enabled via HCSA dollars.
  • Employee seniority and occupational distinctions were recognized by annual increases in HCSA dollars as a percentage of earnings.
